Individualised Osteopathic Care for Movement, Function and Musculoskeletal Health

At Bodywork Evolution, osteopathy provides an individualised approach to understanding movement, physical function, and musculoskeletal health.

Every person is different. Your history, lifestyle, activities, movement patterns, and goals all contribute to understanding your individual presentation.

With more than 25 years of experience working with the human body through Remedial Massage, Structural Integration and Clinical Pilates, Julie brings a broad movement-focused perspective to osteopathic care.

The aim is to understand your individual needs and develop an appropriate approach to support your health, movement and function.

What Is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a regulated Australian health profession that takes a whole-person approach to assessment and management, with particular consideration of the musculoskeletal system and the relationship between structure and function.

An osteopathic consultation begins with understanding your health history and what has brought you to the clinic. This is followed by an appropriate physical assessment to develop a clearer picture of your individual presentation.Standing assessment

Your care is then tailored to your circumstances, goals and needs.

A Whole-Body Approach

The body works as an interconnected system rather than as a collection of isolated parts.

Changes in movement, mobility, strength, activity or physical demands can influence how the body functions.

For this reason, osteopathic assessment considers more than simply the location of a symptom. It looks at the broader picture of how you move, what your body is being asked to do and the factors that may be relevant to your presentation.

This whole-body perspective fits naturally with the philosophy behind Bodywork Evolution.

What Happens During an Osteopathic Appointment?

Your first appointment begins with a conversation about you, this may include discussion of:

  • Lower back painYour current concerns
  • Your health and medical history
  • Previous injuries
  • Your work and daily activities
  • Exercise and physical activity
  • Relevant lifestyle factors
  • How your concerns are affecting your everyday life
  • What you would like to achieve

An appropriate physical assessment may then be undertaken to understand your movement and musculoskeletal presentation.

Your findings will be discussed with you, and an individualised management approach will be developed where appropriate.

Depending on your presentation and goals, your care may include hands-on treatment, movement advice, exercise or other appropriate management strategies.

Osteopathy and Clinical Pilates

Osteopathy and Clinical Pilates can provide complementary approaches to movement and physical wellbeing.

Osteopathic care involves individual assessment and management, while Clinical Pilates provides an active approach to developing movement, strength, control, mobility and confidence.

Where appropriate, these approaches may be incorporated into an individual’s broader movement and rehabilitation plan.

Having both Clinical Pilates and osteopathic care within Bodywork Evolution also provides an opportunity to explore how hands-on care and active movement approaches can work together.

Your Care at Bodywork Evolution

Bodywork Evolution has always been built around understanding the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Neck moblisationJulie’s background includes more than 25 years of experience across:

  • Remedial Massage
  • Clinical Pilates
  • Structural Integration
  • Myofascial approaches
  • Movement and exercise
  • Musculoskeletal care

This experience has developed a strong interest in how people move, how physical demands affect the body and how movement can be supported throughout different stages of life.

Osteopathy brings another dimension to this approach.

Who Might Consider Osteopathy?

People seek osteopathic care for many different reasons.

An osteopathic consultation may be appropriate if you are experiencing concerns relating to movement, mobility or your musculoskeletal health, or if you would like an individual assessment of a physical issue.

If you are unsure whether osteopathy is appropriate for you, you are welcome to contact Bodywork Evolution to discuss your circumstances.

Where a different form of healthcare or assessment would be more appropriate, you can be advised accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an osteopath?

An osteopath is a registered Australian health practitioner who provides osteopathic care. Osteopathy takes a whole-person approach to assessment and management, with particular consideration of the musculoskeletal system and how structure and function relate to each other.

What happens at my first osteopathy appointment?

Your first appointment will generally involve discussing your health history, current concerns, activities and goals, followed by an appropriate physical assessment. Your findings and management options will then be discussed with you.

Do I need a referral to see an osteopath?

Generally, you do not need a referral to make an appointment with an osteopath. If you are unsure whether osteopathy is appropriate for your circumstances, you can contact the clinic before booking.

What should I wear to an osteopathy appointment?

Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily is recommended. Depending on the required assessment, you may be asked to move or adjust clothing so that the appropriate areas can be assessed or treated.

How long is an osteopathy appointment?

Appointment length can vary depending on whether it is an initial or follow-up consultation and what is appropriate for your individual circumstances. Current appointment times and fees will be provided when bookings are available.

Is osteopathy suitable for everyone?

Osteopathy is not necessarily appropriate for every person or every health concern. Your individual history and presentation will be considered in your assessment. If another form of healthcare or further investigation is more appropriate, we can discuss this with you.

Can I combine osteopathy with Clinical Pilates?

Osteopathy and Clinical Pilates can complement each other for some people. Where appropriate, an individual management plan may incorporate both hands-on care and active movement-based approaches.

Do I need to stop exercising before seeing an osteopath?

Not necessarily. Your usual activities and exercise will be considered as part of your individual assessment. If changes to your activities are appropriate, these can be discussed with you.
